Project Overview
The Product On Tuesday, March 22nd, 2022, I attended the Design Lab Snap Academy event. The instructor, Director of Visual Design at Snapchat, showed us how to create a Snapchat Geofilter. I was instructed to design a PNG Geofilter landmark using Adobe Illustrator.
I chose to go with a Hollywood In-and-Out burger-inspired concept for the design. I lived in Hollywood and wanted to develop a filter reminiscent of our unique Los Angeles culture and the local community.
Project duration March 2021
Problem Create and contribute a Snap Geofilter that would appeal to their users.
Goal Design a landmark style Snapchat Geofilter.
Role Visual Designer designing a Geofilter for Snapchat from concept to deployment.
Responsibilities Design a Geofilter, Create paper and digital sketches, account for accessibility, and produce a high-fidelity prototype concept.
Typography
For the typography, I decided on Source Sans Pro: Black. For accessibility purposes, I selected a style of font that is clear and to read.
Digital sketches
Color palette
I kept in mind the instructor's tips about the importance of accessibility. I decided on a red and yellow color palette. I decided to go with a bright, solid color palette that would be easily visible to those with visual impairments.
The colors are also reminiscent of the vibrant colors commonly associated with burger establishments and their brand identities.
Vector graphic
For the Geofilter to properly complement Snap’s mobile app software, the vector needed to be about 50% transparent.
Additionally, the vector needed to be scaled down to become adequately proportional to the overall size of their images across multiple devices.
